Course Description: Do you miss Branson English class? Do you wish you could have been in a Branson English class? Come back to school this summer with Branson English teacher Maddie Lesser! Over the course of the summer, we'll meet for six two-hour sessions to discuss Nobel Prize winning author Toni Morrison's first novel, The Bluest Eye. Published in 1970, The Bluest Eye examines our societal obsession with beauty and conformity. We'll spend half of each session discussing the novel (think: your book group on steroids) and the other half composing our own creative work based on its central questions. What does genuine familial love look like? What does it mean for a woman to live outside societal norms? A man? What ideas about race and class have we inherited from our parents and broader cultural context? Join us this summer to discover how Morrison responds to these questions, and how you might as well. No prior writing experience necessary!

Please let us know if you need us to purchase the book or if you will purchase on your own.
